For decades, Nintendo’s artists have been stuck churning out cartoon art to fill the halls of the Mushroom Kingdom. Which is fine! But in recent years, the company has let them off the leash on games like Splatoon and ARMS, and the results have been nothing short of extraordinary.
Arms Shows That Switch Motion Controls Might Actually Be OK
With Nintendo’s motion controllers now into their second decade of life, I find myself… agnostic. I like Wii Sports and I think pointer aiming in Twilight Princess was awesome, but I don’t like gyro aiming in Splatoon and the less said about Star Fox Zero the better. So where does Arms fit in?

Nintendo will hold free “Global Testpunch” online beta tests for its motion-controlled Switch brawler Arms, it said during today’s Nintendo Direct. You’ll be able to play a selection of characters and modes during the weekends of May 26-28 and June 2-4.

The Switch’s fighting game, Arms, will drop June 16th, as are yellow Joy-Con. Arms is a boxing game with some colorful characters—you’ll be able to equip both your arms with elemental powers. Cool to see a game take their core concept and run with it, even if that concept is “arms.”
